clove hitch around a tree

Well, the glory of figuring out the solution to my problem posed
earlier today was attained by Paul Brown, the first to figure it out.
However, since he is an NCAC'er, he already has an NCAC patch, and
graciously offered to let the first out-of-council person with the
correct solution have it instead. So--all of you are still in the
running for the patch, if not the glory.
To repeat the challenge--a free NCAC CSP to the first (well, actually,
the next) subscriber to this list who correctly solves the problem of
tying a clove hitch around a tree when you cannot get within ten feet
of the tree itself.
This might be a good thread to get going. Anybody out there have
team-building exercises such as the one above that require little or
no equipment to put on?
