I am Mariette Gieles and today I subscribed to the scouts-list.
I would like to introduce myself. I live in the Netherlands, in
Nijmegen. I am 22 years old and I am a student and a scout leader.
My group consists of 32 scouts, both boys and girls (which is quite
common in the Netherlands, we have only one national organization,
representing WOSM and WAGGGS) and 7 leaders. I am what we call the
team leader. I don't know what you call that.
I've read today's mail on the list and I like the variety of subjects
that are discussed. From religious differences to firestarters!
I see a lot that scouting in the States and scouting in the Netherlands
have in common. That's natural, we're all scouts! I also see interesting differ
ences and I hope we can exchange ideas and thus learn from each other.
I have a few questions. First, could someone email me and explain how
your rank and age system works, because I get quite confused reading all
these terms like EAGLE and LIVE. In the Netherlands, we do have first,
second and third class and achievement badges and all that, but I am very
curious about your system. Secondly, has anyone of you been at the World
Jamboree in the Netherlands last summer? I was there and I would like to
talk to people who were there too. Last question: does YiS mean 'yours
in Scouting'? In that case:
