Last week, there was discussion about a Cultures MB. This week, the
topic of "Christmas" parties has arisen.
I am familiar with four religions; all have celebrations which are
analogous to Christmas. (OK, five if you count Wicca.)
Might this be the year to explore those other celebrations?
The Hindus just celebrated (23 Oct) Dewali, the Festival of Lights, which
celebrates the return of the Good King to his throne and country after he
defeats the Evil Usurper.
The Jews will celebrate Hanukkah about 18 Dec.
Wicca will celebrate the Solstice on the 21 Dec.
I don't know when Islam's id-el-Fittyr (Sorry about the spelling!) is
this year (or was?). Is this the year it's in December again?
Christians will celebrate Christmas, which combines elements of all the
others with the birthday celebration of Jesus.
Just a thought.
