My name's Marcus Ridgway, Scout Leader of the 1st Muchalls/Newtonhill Scout Troo
p. Muchalls & Newtonhill are two villages located close to eachother on the Nort
h Sea coast in between Aberdeen & Stonehaven in Kincardineshire, Scotland. I've
been Scout Leader for about a year now, having been dumped in at the deep end af
ter I answered a request for some 'helpers' for the local Scout Troop. We curren
tly have 24 Scouts in the troop, four patrols: Eagles, Hawks, Falcons, and Kodia
ks. The troop is gradually becoming more active after a lengthy barren spell as
I become more knowledgeable about what I am doing. I hope I'm out of 'headless c
hicken' mode now. Currently, our Scout Group is busy fundraising/planning for ou
r own Scout Hall to be located in Newtonhill when our tenure in the old primary
school expires next year.
I'm not new to Scouting, I was active in the 3rd Kamloops Scout Group (B.C. Cana
da) for 10 years (Cubs, Scouts, Ventures - '73-'83) before heading off to Univer
sity and eventually settling down in Scotland. After a 11 year break, I felt abl
e to help, and seeing the request in our village newsletter, I made the call.
I'm looking forward to reading this group, only having discovered it today throu
gh the rec.scouting FAQ.
