MORE on the topic - There are often problems recruiting NEW den leaders
for CUB packs, just like the problem reported for GS. In fact our pack
and troop LOST a great "organizer" and top notch FUND raiser, because
his wife went with his son to a SCHOOL nite, and was told all the DENS
were full, unless 1 or both parents wanted to be a DEN leader.
Well they shopped arround, and found a pack/troop (my OLD troop),
that recuited the YOUTH first, and once the GOT YOUR MONEY, then
they had a parents nite, and organized DENS, explained about
training, introduced the DEN leader coach that HELPED run the
first meetings etc.
I think BOTH GS and BSA (CUBS & tigers) can have a problem with
enough trained leaders! I agree with the poster who said that
the GS people at school night did a POOR job. Get the YOUTH
singed up first! Then recruit the parrents latter, once you
have more time to talk to them, and explain all the training
and resources etc.
Now our troop maybe looking for a NEW chairman, while the BEST
posible kinda guy, is Now on the comittee of another troop.
A great troop mind you, but they have more ADULTS than they
know what to do with.
Sign up the youth, and the adults will follow, (with proper
