I posted a request a couple weeks ago (or at least I thought I did). Since I
haven't received any reaction, I am posting it again(?).
By way of introduction, I am new to Scouts-L and relatively new to scouting.
I have been a Committee member for two years with Troop 7 (Henrietta, NY -
Otetiana Council). However, my most rewarding experience is my role as
advisor to our Leadership Corps (they really keep me on my toes).
Like many other volunteer organizations, our Troop is faced with the problem
of bringing in enough money to maintain a quality program for our scouts.
The Troop Committee has chartered a subcommittee to consider alternatives
for financing our operations and make a recommendation to the full committee.
An important step in this analysis is to seek information on how other
troops have met this same challenge.
To help us in our research, would you please respond to the following general
questions about how your troop is financed. Please send your replies by
private mail. Thank you for your assistance.
1. How many boys are active in your troop?
2. a. What is the amount of the total troop budget?
b. Does this budget include ALL activities and costs?
c. If not, what costs are NOT included in the budget? (for example,
food for outings)
3. What percent of the financing for your committee's budget comes from the
a. _____% Dues
b. _____% Fund raisers
c. _____% Activity fees (e.g., charge for specific outings)
d. _____% Other
Please feel free to add any comments about your successes and
not-so-successful endeavors in financing your Troop. Also, let me know if
you would like to receive a copy of the results of our survey. If there is
enough interest, I will post the results on SCOUTS-L.
