Peter - Your Council organizes 1 or more troops to go to the National
Jamboree. They have a goal/quota. In most Councils the Jamboree troops
are provisional, i.e. they are made up of Scouts form a number of troops.
I have heard (though rarely) of whole troops organizing to go, but there is
an age minimum to think about.
Budgeting for the Jamboree includes the Jamboree fee (probably around $400
for 1997) and for transportation to Virginia and any extra touring that
takes place before or after. Scouts also need to budget for at least 2 and
maybe 3 complete uniforms, as well as spending money for the tour and
Jamborees run about 8 days. In 1997 troops will arrive on July 28/29, and
leave August 6. (I'm pretty sure about these, but readers should double
check them with their Councils.)
If you're involved in, or interested in Jamboree organizational
information, send me an e-mail directly - firstname.lastname@example.org and I will
put you on our discussion list. I'd be happy to answer other questions
about the Jamboree, too.
