Thanks for your thoughts concerning the role of a roundtable in a
district. I believe that most would agree that a roundtable needs to be
a combination of training and dissemination of information. Your discription
of the roundtable in your district seems to indicate a lack of the latter.
Why not talk to your District Commissioner concerning the ways you would
suggest for improvement. Giving over 15 to 20 minutes to announcements is
the way I usually see this done.
You also mention that you see the Roundtable be the place for District
planning and decision making. I would disagree with this being a role for
roundtables. The District Committee meeting is the place for discussions like
this to take place. You might want to ask the DIstrict Chairman if you could
sit in on a District Committee meeting to see how it works in your district.
Whatever the outcome, I hope that everybody in your district will continue
to dialog on the role of the roundtable until you come up with an answer that
is beneficial for all concerned.
Yours in scouting, Bob Sargeant, DC of the GW District of NCAC, BSA. I used to
be a fox.
