Up until a few years ago, BSA used to also have a cheaper SCOUT
version of the felt campaign hat. In fact, these were 'issued'
as the UNIFORM hat to scouts that served on the 1964 Worlds Fair
service troops. I HAVE ONE. It in all felt, with a cloth band
inside and out. NO fancy leather etc. Someone told us that
they were made buy the same company that made the Drill Sergent
style hats for the millitary. BUT, then since it is also a
millitary style hat, maybe that is another reason why it has
been dropped as a normal uniform OPTION for scouts?
In looking at a BSA scout catalogue from the early 1980's,
the scout FELT campaign hats were listed for $19.95 plus
shipping! The LEADERS hat was list for $39.95!
Maybe they were just dropped because NO SCOUTS ever
