cub resident camping

Our council's Camping Committee is weighing the pros and cons of
offerring a cub resident camping week at our camp property where we
currently run a Webelos week, two Cub Pack Weekends and 4 weeks of Boy
Scout Camp. The camp property is 186 acres and is located an hour away
from the council area.
We also run a Cub Day Camp (which barely breaks even, is closer to
home, but is not on council-owned property).
My questions are the following: How successful has the Cub Resident
Camp (for 7 & 8 year old Cubs) been? Are there councils out there that
run a Cub Resident Camp located more than 50 miles from home? Should
we expect the Day Camp numbers to decline if Resident Camp is
offerred? Can a Cub Resident Camp and a Webelos Camp run concurrently
with the same staff? Are more adult staff members needed for Cub
Resident Camp? Are there any camps out there that get the boy to
return to the same camp property as a cub, webelo and scout? What
could we expect to spend building a Cub Theme area?
You may tell from my questions that I am a bit pessimistic about this
venture. I am sure Cub Resident Camp would benefit some of our Cubs,
but would it be at the expense of our current programs? (Our Boy Scout
camp, Edmund D. Strang Scout Reservation, was selected by national as
one of the top 10 in the country.) Should we heed the advice "If it
ain't broke, don't fix it"? Is Cub Resident Camping the way of the
present and the future? Any advice those of you with Cub Resident
Camping experiences can offer would be appreciated.
