I know this is probaly not a list item...however, I thought I would share
Thursday I flew out of Albuquerque to Las Vegas Nevada to meet a former
karate instructor and still friend of mine, his students and some
students that had come down from St. Louis. We caravaned to San
Diego on friday evening to participate in an International Tournament
there on Saturday. I have never in my 24 years in the martial arts seen
such a "heavy table" as was there. The grandmaster of Kuntaw, Kajukembo,
and Goju were there. HIGHLY venerated men!!!! Grandmaster Victor Hughes
was even there....standing in this mans presence.....whooooooow.
When I was presented to Mr. Hughes, he announced to me that he would
not shake my hand....but, wanted to hug me....I was just dumbfounded, to
stand in this man's presence....is quite enough. To be presented to
him...even more of an honor...but this show of affection is more than
anyone could ever ask.... As I write this...I am still shocked and
Anyhow, I took first in my weight class in fighting (220 lbs and above),
and during presentations of awards....(all this unbeknowst to me) I was
presented with a promotion to Third Degree Black that had been signed
effective 15 September 1995.
I hold black belts in four other systems, this came from the first person
that started me on my way from white belt. I am quite humbled and honored.
Oh well thanks for listening...I just had to tell someone..
