As I've been reminded by some of my friends here, there is a BSA uniform
hat. Unlike neckwear (a troop option), it is standard.
That it (like the trousers and shorts) is, IMHO, not functional as a
piece of outdoor clothing, doesn't remove it from being part of the
uniform. I happen to like the idea of a hat that actually functions as a
sunshade, like the "boonie" hat suggested by one correspondent. I wear
such a hat (actually, mine is French Indochina issue w/ a mosquito net),
but then I also wear GI camo trousers, too. To me, form should follow
function, not the other way around.
