IMHO, I believe that you should always carry equiptment in a frame pack
(internal is my favorite because it packs much like a duffle). This is
so that when you do go camping , not car camping, the scouts will know
how to pack their packs so that they don't:
1) make 20 trips to get all their gear to thcamp as usually happens when
the boys aren't limited to their pack, but a duffle which never seems big
2) look like slobs carying their equiptment in their hands.
The Practical advantages of using frame packs is that they can carry
their own equiptment and some of the troop equiptment, ie. tents, tarps,
roap,pots & pans etc.
This again saves time and trips on regular camping trips.
