Please folks - if you want to respond to the survey to help a fellow
Scouter with his college class project, please do it by private
e-mail and not to the list. This list is about Scouting and youth
organizations. Sending an e-mail to the list on this topic deprives another
Scouter of the chance to use this list to discuss a Scouting topic or
perhaps find an answer to a question. Please use the list responsibly.
If you don't know how to send a private e-mail, please take the time to
consult with your system operator to learn how.
Although, I am weary of hearing about this trial and maybe even a grump
when it comes to it <g>, I realize that many of our Scouts have a lot of
curiosity about the whole business and may be asking questions about it,
particularly Cubs. If you would like to put a Scouting spin on it, try
using the Caring and Sharing "Ethics in Action" exercise that uses a mock
trial to help the boys understand how a jury works and what happens in
deciding whether a wrong has been committed. Instead of simply having
straw polls on guilt/innocence, etc. by people who didn't see everything
the jury saw, consider this activity. The boys may get a real
appreciation for just how hard the job of a juror is and also understand
a little better how our justice system works.
If anyone wants to respond to the first part of this e-mail, please do so
privately in consideration of the list. All discussions of the merits of
the case will be cheerfully deleted without comment.
