Here in San Antonio our Polar Bear patch is awarded to anyone camping
when the temperature drops below 32F. We award Arrow Points to Scouts
for each night after the first. The Troop record is 16.
While on vacation in Silverton Colorado on July 4, 1991 I met the local
Cubmaster and told him about our requirements while talking shop.
Silverton is about 7 or 8,000 feet up in the Rockies north of Durango.
It had been 33 degrees the night before. He laughed so hard I thought he
would fall down. Almost EVERY night they go camping it's below freezing!
