Here, "Friends of Scouting" is a one-time presentation to the entire Pack
usually at a monthly meeting and way after the holidays. Some leaders
are approached at a personal level as well. Their is a little pressure
put on us to help but, not anything approaching a "hard sell".
Most people here are unaware of the program till the first time it is
presented to them. Only one leader in our group voiced negative opinions
about the program stating that its only purpose was to provide council
execs with new cars.
Well if I was hired as a Professional and told to drive all over the
place I would prefer a company car too!
Basically, you need to answer just a few questions to justify your
helping the program.
1. Do I like Scouting?
2. Do We need a Local Council with full-time employees and Professional
Staff to improve and keep everything running smoothly?
3. Does Council do what they say and are supposed to be doing on your
behalf and for the community?
I believe, if you answer yes, even grudgingly, then you will want to
support the program.
And afterall, the contributions are tax-deductible, for now at least!
