YES, I have "camped" at the Naval and Service mans park in Buffalo.
But CAMP we did not! We stayed in the crew quarters on the USS
Little Rock. It was a overnite style event. Check in Friday
for dinner, and leave Sat after Breakfast, and a tour of the
ships and the rest of the park.
We have done it as a LAD and DAD with Cubs, and also scouts.
Cubs seemed to like it more than scouts. Scouts got boored
with limited activities on Friday nite. ie Navy movies!
Maybe if the scouts had planned to have some one to teach
rope splices or other ship related skills? Saturday was
fine, unless you get real bad weather. SOme of the park
and parts of the ships are outside.
I have heard some troops have done it on a weekend with
a baseball game, or a Sabres hockey game. Both fields
are near the park. Of course, niether are playing
All in all, if you PLAN enough activity for your group,
it should be a fine trip.
AND, another thing to consider for Saturday, Greater Niagara
Frontier council sponsors a 'HISTORIC TRAIL medal ' program,
which runs from the Naval Park, thru Niagara Falls, up to
OLD Fort Niagara on Lake Ontario. The council offices sells
the trail medal books for a small fee. THIS is a CAR trail,
not a 50 mile hike :)
