Well, I guess I am now an official Cubmaster, one of the boys even called
me Mr. Cubmaster, now that our/my first Pack meeting is done.
First I would like to thank all of those who offered assistance with my
first pack meeting. Thank you for your note Pete !!!!! I used the string
skit as our closing ceremony.
The meeting went very well as was confirmed by all of our den leaders
as well as a few parents. I introduced the idea of doing songs, skits and
a closing/reflection ceremony to our pack meetings (for those of you who
don't remember my initial post our pack meetings had turned into one
long award and acouncements meeting). Everyone was very suprised when I
had the boys from summer camp come up and lead the pack in the Froggie
song ......THEY LOVED IT !!!!! One of my den leaders came to me and said
she would have never known her boy learned that song if he hadn't sung
it at the meeting. The closing ceremony was especially touching,
I don't think most of our parents had experienced a touching closing
ceremony. Again, thank you everyone for your help.
Here is the closing that I used. Thanks again Pete Farnham !
Have the boys all gather in the middle, then toss a ball of twine
into the group. Have them pass it among themselves, each holding
onto the twine. By the time they are done, they're all tangled
up in a huge mass of twine. The idea of course is to show them
that they're all connected and part of a larger group ** THE PACK **
and that you hope to make sure they continue to think of themselves
The only way I modified this was to have the entire group form a
circle around our coucil camp fire and pass a ball of string around
the circle until everyone was holding a piece of the string. I also
spoke a little about scouting traditions.
Any more Closing ceremonies ?
