I too have been the subject of hazing and teasing that scarred me for a long
time. I am perhaps overly sensitive to issues of kids being reduced to
tears or overwhelming embarassment. I agree with the posters who have said
that the temprament of the parties involved need to be taken into account.
As with the boy whose mother had committed suicide, one NEVER can be too
gentle, but it is too easy to have seeming FUN turn to extreme unhappiness.
I try to put myself in the other person's *shoes* before I tease or settle
on a *punishment*.
As for college frat hazing, I always thought that drinking a quart of any
booze was stupid and only proved that the initiate was stupid. But having
grown up living the terror of alcohol abuse, I wouldn't want that on anyone.
