Sent to the list as info for all district training chairmen, etc.
Tracking adult training/awards at district level: Suggest you
use the advancement/training subprogram on your council computer.
This will require cooperation of your Scout Executive and work by
your Council Registrar, if your council is not already doing it.
However, it is better than any "local" system because it
automatically adds and subtracts people as they join and drop.
Each training course has a code, i.e. CF1 = Den Leader Fast
Start, C20 = Cub Scout Basic, etc. The complete list of National
codes is in the Leadership Training Policies Procedures Materials
pamphlet. You can add your own codes, if that is not enough (we
Your registrar can produce a list of everyone who has completed a
given training course (or award), or a list of everyone who has
NOT completed the course (even more useful!). The list can show
only people who are registered is specific positions, or everyone
in a program, or everyone in the district or council. For
instance, I have a monthly standing request for all DL and DA who
do NOT have CF1 and C20 (in plain English, all den leaders and
assistant den leaders who have not completed Den Leader Fast
Start and Cub Scout Basic Training). Then, the Cub training team
tries to train each of these people.
In my opinion, it works. For over two years we were in the top
20 councils in the country with Cub leaders trained (both Fast
Start and Basic). We have the highest percentage of Wood Badge
trained Scouters in our Area.
If someone wants more information about the district/council
records, contact me privately. I will forward our operating
procedures and more comments.
At the unit level: I recommend pencil and paper! List the
training and awards that you think important (Fast Start, Basic,
Youth Protection, Pow Wow, Showando or whatever, Cub awards,
Scouter's Key, Scouter's Training Award, Service Stars, etc.
Write dates next to them. Some make a chart, names on the side,
awards across the top. Keep this one simple.
