The Good Manners candle (or Good Conduct candle as we call it) is a good idea
if you meet in a place where you can burn a candle. We have several dens that
meet in a public school and can't burn candles. So we suggest a variation on
the theme: At the start of the meeting, each boy gets a marble. If he makes
it through the meeting without getting out of control, he can put his marble
in the big jar. If he gets caught, he must surrender his marble to the
leader. When the marble jar is full, they get the surprise like when the
candle burns down.
For surprizes, we did some different activities like a pizza party, or a
father/son bowling trip, or a trip to the Ice Cream Parlor. We let the boys
decide what they wanted to do.
Good luck with your Den!
