and Les TURNED DOWN TWO jobs, one which would place him as the
Southern Region's Associate Director of Operations (a GREAT JOB, but
which he would have remained in Georgia) as well as working at the
National Office with Council Support (financial support). It is
apparent that he's looking for a new challenge, and he'll find it in
Tampa, where in the past seven years, youth have been falling (except
for a spurt in 1992-93, but everyone enjoyed that brief spurt!), the
finance base almost depleted (an over-relance on seventeen key
industries and the loss of military units at nearby Air Force Bases
due to the military drawdown), and a summer camp facility which has
been improved, but not to the point that Les can oversee it and make
it MUCH BETTER. Scouters from Tampa, you are REALLY in for a treat,
because this Les dude likes to interact with volunteers, and NOT just
those that have any influnce on his "report card". Les is also, like
Big Ed stated, a "stickler for training" and this means that when he
rolls into town there, expect the field staff to GET MORE TRAINING
so that they can do a better job with the volunteer in the field. Big
Ed didn't mention Les's support of the Order of the Arrow as well as
his support to in-school and other "special forms" of Scouting.
Les is a GREAT pro, and Griffin's loss is definately going to be
Tampa's big gain!
Sorry for your loss, Big Ed!
