Hi Scouting Gang!
I am sure Pat Skelly was worried about me all summer <G>
This summer was a blast at Camp Thunder, it was the most enjoyable year yet
in my 16 years on camp staff. Unfortunately I went through computer hell
while at camp, let me explain my three month absence on AOL.
For most places getting a phone line installed in a building at camp would be
no problem but even though both myself and my camp director tried repeatedly,
it took nearly two months for a backwater telephone company in Central
Georgia to install a new phone line to the Camp Thunder Country Store where I
was Business Manager.. By the time the line got put in the seventh week my
computer had succummed to the elements of a hot & dusty camp (power system
died) and I just now got it back (thank God for extended Warrantee Plans)
from Micro Center.
So I am back here, wondering how many people sent me E-Mail in June, July &
August that I never saw.
Give me a couple of days to read all of the new posts and try and get back on
track. I will be sharing with everyone what we did at Thunder.
While this was going on, about two weeks ago we received some sad news (for
me anyway) that our Scout Executive, Les Baron has taken the SE job at Tampa
Florida. In the last five years our SE has helped make our council one of
the financially strongest in the entire Southern Region, we were recognizwed
for two years for being the top council in the nation for training, our
summer camp is just awesome and continues to set new records in attendance
for satisfied troops. It is an honor for our SE to go from a small council
based in Griffin GA to Tampa Florida. All I can tell you guys in Gulf Ridge
Council is prepare for a Hurricane Warning, the best SE in the country is
fixing to blow into town! God we will miss him, I hope our next SE is only
half as good and committed to a strong summer camp as Les Baron is.
