Our Venture Crew has decided they want to do a neat canoe trip in October
(less than a month away, and not our normal time of year). We don't have
much lead-time !
We have always canoed the Lower Colorado River because it's only 4-6 hours
away from San Diego, easy to organize and pretty tame. We have gone south
out of Hoover Dam twice and Walter's Camp to Imperial Dam lots of times.
I personally have had it with the Lower Colorado and would like to try
something a little farther away and much more interesting, like the South
Fork American River (Sacramento Delta area).
If anybody has a good suggestion, please reply directly to me by e-mail. I
would appreciate a reference's name and phone number so we can communicate
Specs: 20 Scouts and Dads
5 vans and cars
Can haul our own canoes from San Diego (max 500 miles, 1 way)
or rent locally
2-3 good days on water plus 2 10-hour travel days (max)
Not too much portaging
Can have shuttling personnel not on water, if needed
Convenient and nice camping spots
Memorable water experience, but not over Class 3 !
Thanks & good camping
