"I'd like to get an idea of what other Den's have their scouts pay in the
way of dues."
We pretty much let each den decide their own dues structure with the single
policy provision that den dues are used only for materials or activities for the
boys - not for snacks. Leader materials are paid for by the pack and also don't
come out of den dues.
Den dues generally run $3-$5/year/Scout and are collected in September. The
boys take turns providing snacks and drinks for the den meetings. If needed
dens can ask parents for more money during the year.
When I was a den leader it seemed like we always had extra money at the end of
the year for a pizza party. The year we did the craftsman activity pin was the
only time we ran low but still didn't have to ask for more. Looking back it
doesn't seem like a lot of money. Guess we leaders were good scroungers. :-)
Truthfully, I glad we kept the dues low. Some boys didn't have much money and
some did. Low dues meant that money was not a dividing factor.
There's probably something to be said for the instructive value of weekly dues.
We didn't do it that way but it might be worth considering.
