Our troop participates in festivals as part of our fundraising program.
We sell drinks, pita sandwiches, fruit salad cups, roasted sweetcorn, and
just added onion blossoms to our menu. The onion cutter costs about $300.
This year we did the Midwest Dulcimer Festival, about 60 miles from our
town, our local community festival, Cornfest, and next month Northern
Illinois University will be celebrating it's centennial celebration and
will have a booth at that as well.
In addition to a good source of revenue, it is also good community
exposure. We answer many questions about Scouting. We have had new
people to the community find us and become involved in Scouting. It is
also a great gathering place for Scout alumni who look for us each year
and stop to visit.
We also provide a food concession at the local AYSO soccer games which
last nine saturdays. We keep prices low and good will high.
