SUBJECT: School Night for Scouting
Before I tell you about our success last night, I want to say that I am VERY
disappointed in National, AGAIN. They were to send Boys Life mini-mags for
distribution at School Night. Of course, they BEING SO CHEAP did not print
enough and our council only received 1000. So for school night I only had two
to hand out. WHY BOTHER? When my DE found out the day before SNFS that we
would be shorted, he called National. They told him they would be glad to send
a shipment of normal sized Boys Life mags to him. IF WE HAD ONLY KNOWN
EARLIER. Yes, National made the decision to short us on the mini-mags weeks
ago. NICE OF THEM TO TELL THE COUNCILS!
So how did we do? OK, but not fantastic. I was asked to restart a lapsed unit.
I had 38 boys sign up. Twenty Tigers, 6 Wolfs, 6 Bears, no Webelos :-(, and t
he rest requested placement in other packs in the area. As usual, I did not
get enough leadership. Only one man stayed until everyone was gone and then
came forward to sign up as a Den Leader (Bear). It is so irritating to hear
"I'm so busy" when I see them all at the ball fields night after night.
Anyway, more work for me. I have to call and find a CM, MC's, CC, etc. After I
got home and was looking through the applications over coffee and talking to
my wife about my disappointment, I found two Eagles and three Life scouts
listed, not to mention those that only had some scouting background in BSA or
GSUSA. NONE of these parents stepped forward. I guess I am just getting old...
