I'm also posting this to the SCOUTS-L since the subject is of general
interest to the community.
1. Some of our Eagle candidates want to use a backlighted Eagle Scout
emblem as part of the ceremony. The display box is borrowed from
our council office. Your council may have one also. There are
separate lights for Red, White, Blue, Gold and Silver (as I
recall); these are turned on individually as the Symbolism of
the Eagle is read. That part of the ceremony is very moving.
2. Another part of some of our ceremonies is having one boy of each
rank present in the front row. The narrator then reads a
description of the candidate's progress from Scout (Cub?) through
Life. The text is in Woods Wisdom.
3. As far as decorations go, one thing that we do is display the
candidates past offices and honors. Since this is a hurried
affair, you could just have an arrangement of his former badges
of office (most boys keep them), his OA sash (if he's in OA),
and so on, around his Scout Handbook. Any pictures of him in
Scouting activities could also be included here.
4. Finally, there are other good ideas for Eagle Ceremonies in
Woods Wisdom and the SCOUTS-L archives
