Eagle Court of Honor

I am the newly elected Committee Chair for our troop, and this is my first
year in Boy Scouting (just crossed over from Webelos this past Spring). We
are performing a very rushed Eagle Court of Honor this coming Monday
evening. The Scout's mother's cancer has resurfaced and she will be
hospitalized Tuesday morning for extensive treatment (doctors are not very
encouraging). There will be no more than 35 guests in attendance. I have
never been to one before, so I need some suggestions.
We are planning on having our COR present the Scout with a silver dollar and
read the Symbolism of the Eagle, which was posted last month by Stan Hodge
(wonderful!). We have no funds available right now, so 3 of us are donating
refreshments and decorations. I am responsible for the decorations, and
this is where I need your suggestions. What colors would be suitable? I
have lots of left over blue and gold crepe paper for streamers from last
year's Blue & Gold Banquet, but are those colors more for Cub Scouting?
Would red be better? I want to have a refreshment table set up with
candles (what color -- red ?), maybe mounted in a nice piece of firewood,
and a white tablecloth. I asked the Scout to be sure to bring his scout
handbook -- I would like for that to be part of the main centerpiece. We
have to keep the decorations to a minimue due to restraints placed by the
community center that is letting us use a room.
I know this seems trivial, but we really want this to be a very special
occasion in light of what his family will be facing.
Please respond to me directly, as I get this in digest format, and I'm days
behind on my reading.
