OFFICE MEMO Jamborees Date:8/16/95
If you haven't already visited the International Jamboree Web Page, you
should. This site covers the recently help 18th World Jamboree. Copies of
the Jamboree newspaper (TerraNova) are posted as well as much other
interesting info (movies, photos, sound, press releases, ...). You can
download the newspaper as an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) file. The result is a full
color copy of the newspaper.
If you've never attended a Jamboree (or even if you have) it makes great
The Jamboree home page is at:
If you can't read Web pages, the newspapers can be FTP'ed from host
ftp.imp.ch in the directory scouting/terranova. The files are GZipped and
are in PDF and postscript format. Please try to access this server after
For those who missed the International Jamboree, budget planning is starting
for the BSA National Jamboree, which is now only (ONLY?) two years from now.
This is a great event to attend for those of us who are into LARGE (35,000
scouts and Scouters) happenings. It will take many Scouts the next two years
to plan and earn the money needed to attend the event. An inexpensive way to
attend is to serve on staff, either regional or National.
When the event is closer, I will be looking for Scouts and Scouters with
newspaper or writing experience to fill the 21 slots on the jamboree
newspaper staff. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME ANY REQUESTS NOW. Thousands of other
jobs are also available.
Each Council will get one or more Troop allocations (36 Scouts, 4 leaders) to
attend the jamboree. Watch for info from National (Boy's Life & Scouting) as
well as your local Council. I'm sure we'll have lots of info here on
SCOUTS-L as well.
