I think George Bernard Shaw summarized Steve's intemperate position and
the proper response to it quite nicely with the following from one of
BRITTANICUS: "Caesar! This is not proper!!"
CAESAR: (Outraged) How?!!
BRUTUS: "Forgive him, Caesar. He is a savage and thinks that
the customs of his tribe are the laws of nature."
Having said that, I must say that I am not a smoker and that I share his
distaste for smoking. On a similar thread, we had only one smoker that
I saw the week I was at summer camp with my Troop. He was a Scoutmaster.
Of course, I _do_ live in southern California, where smoking is probably
proportionately less popular than in many other parts of the USA.
In my city and many others, smoking is prohibited in public buildings
and in restaurants. In the city of Ventura, about 15 miles away, some
smokers have banded together to form a smoking club and have leased a
