How about a really nice walking staff (or is it stave?)
It could be carved with the unit's numerals, years of tenure, his name,
If you have anyone in your unit that is really good at carving it could be
a graphical history of his tenure with the unit. Possibly with totems or
remembrances of campouts or unique highlights of his time with the unit.
As far as the presentation of the stick goes, you could include something
like "to help you down your new path" and "to remember us as you continue
YOUR path in Scouting" or something to that effect.
I, for one, would really appreciate that sort of a gift, as I am a very
sentimental type and a staff is something that will last for a lifetime, as
do the memories of our favorite units and people.
Let the list know what you decided to do with this, as we are all in this
situation sooner or later.
