As a divorced parent myself, I would like to suggest that you try to
communicate with both. Many years ago, my son (now 25) was living with his
mother. She didn't like scouting (probably because I did). I was frequently
kept "out of the loop" regarding his activities. I was forced to impose
myself on the situation. If the unit had tried to communicate with me in any
way, I would have appreciated it greatly.
Don't assume that the "custodial" parent is the one you should communicate
with, it doesn't always work.
