We had a recent Roundtable on the subject of critters, presented by an
entomologist for the State Board of Health. He told us that chiggers don't
burrow, that the itching and swelling is your body's reaction to the
numbing/anticoagulant they use in the bite. The chigger is long gone when
you actually feel the bite.
