The current reccommended method for removing a tick is to grasp it with
forceps as close to the head as possible and gently pull straight out trying
not to leave any body parts behind.
Using a blown out match might cause a scout to accidently burn himself and
the old method of smothering the tick with nail polish or other petroleum
based products causes the tick to reguritate back into the wound.
Needless to say, all wounds should be cleaned with soap and water and some
type of antiseptic applied.
