Terry, I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly. I =think=
you are asking if a Scout is required to have the Swimming MB before he
can go on a canoe trip. The short answer is "no." As I understand it,
the requirement is that the Scout pass the standard BSA Swimmer's Test
to go canoeing (jump into water over his head, level off and swim 150
yards with the front/side stroke of his choice, then another 50 yards of
the elementary backstroke; must include one sharp turn). I'm not clear
if the following is true throughout BSA...a non-swimmer may travel in a
canoe with an =adult= Swimmer.
If you're asking if Swimming MB is required to earn the Canoeing MB, I'm
not sure on that, but I expect so.
