Ditto on Bruce's and Marc's comments about the Court of Honor.
The Eagle COH is a time to recognize the scout's reaching BSA's
highest rank. We had a COH last week for a non-Jewish scout
in our troop (sponsored by a reform congregation). One of the
rabbi's gave an opening prayer and later a minister from the boy's
church gave a short speech on the boy's activities as a member of
the church. I must admit that I was very impressed. He is very active
in helping others in need. Most of these activities are outside of
scouting special projects. He is also an excellant leader who has really
looked out for the other boys.
The point of my comments is to clearify that while we should
give time to the twelfth point of the scout law, we should also
try and include the other eleven. A scout in not just reverent,
he is also trustworthy, loyal, helpful, ...
