In my opinion the comparison of Eagle qualifications from different eras
will accomplish no GOOD purpose.
I am a 5 palm Eagle from 1943. Both sons are 2 palm Eagles from the 70s
(24 and 21 mb) program. I have served on or chaired the local district
Eagle Board for about 22 years now. The only point of this paragraph is
to establish my credentials to post on the subject.
There is no way to accurately and objectively evaluate the differences in
the program over the years. I did not have to do a service project and
adults could earn Eagle (I was 15). My sons had my direction and
assistance. I had to pass Life Saving and Swimming; they did not but they
had the citizenships - something we took for granted.
My 13 year old (just barely) grandson is a Star and may someday be an
Eagle if he meets the requirements. How can anyone say, with any
degree of authority, that he will have done more - or less - (if he
makes it) than we did?
The final point of my post is to respectfully request that we call the
issue a "tie", cease administering corporal punishment to a deceased equine
and move forward.
