This type of "Marine Corps discipline" has no place in Scouting. You made
the correct decision by taking yourself and your son to another troop.
Scouting is supposed to be boy-run and a fun experience not some military
Now I would encourage you to report the conduct of these former Marines,
masquerading as Scoutmasters (for surely no Scoutmaster would act as they),
to your Scout Executive. IMO, what you described is possibly child abuse
and should be handled according to YPP guidelines.
