Magic Cards at Camp

My troop just returned from a week at summer Scout Camp. (I did not
attend, since we had 4 ASMs who really wanted to go) . Last night I received
some input from one of the ASMs that all the boys, at one point or another,
spent some time at the campsite picnic table playing "Magic cards". I have
seen these at times before, but have never experienced them as such a
distraction. Some of our boys spent a LOT of their week at this activity,
allegedly to the detriment of other activities.
It seems the Magic cards are akin to "Dungeons and "Dragons" but need no
book to guide the game. Some of these kids spent every waking hour memorizing
the card details, as to which power can do what to some other power. Appears
to be as addictive as Nintendo, but portable in the woods.
The ASM did his level best to discourage the game, and make sure the guys
got out and about. Some kids responded, but others just kept it up.
He asked me what I would have done. I told him I would have confiscated
the cards on occasion number two. But then I have no new reputation to
Have Magic cards been a problem to anybody else ? Are these cards
substance-free drugs? Or what?
