I disagree, the force and time and requirements to get things done, not only
correctly, cleanly, and properly but on time, forces a scout patrol to
actually work as a team and continue to do so all year. Summer camp and its
time limitations are no big drag on the activity, and living the patrol
method 12 monbths a year is better than only doing it for 11 months and
saying "we'll let you off this time, guys" for summer camp.
You have to do patrol method for a week at JLTC, at Wood Badge, at NJLIC and
at other nationally set up training programs, and that's because doing so for
a week teaches the scouts (and leaders) something. Jump off the dining hall
bandwagon and get into SCOUTING!
