From the context of the post, I assume Larry TOMLINSON is talking about
weekend campouts, not the summer camps?
If so, then, boy would our guys enjoy one of your $20 campouts!! Our
troop charges $5per night per camper, adult, boy, male or female. They
eat a lot of sloppy joes, but then again that seems to be all they *want*
to eat as the Scouts invariably select it for the menu.
Most of our campouts are within an hour of our home-base, so gas isn't a
problem financially, but the troop buys $20 of gas once a year for every
adult who drove.
The adult participation in the campouts is optional, and frankly most of
the adults regard it as an opportunity to spend time with (A) their son
and (B) other like-minded Scouters, so the time investment is a wash.
Also, for those with more than one son in the troop, unspecified
"adjustments" are made between the SM and the father when all the boys go
somewhere. It is also true that this happens so rarely it generally isn't
a problem that more than 2 are free the same weekend.
