While I concur that too many folks needlessly repost entire messages, I'm
not sure this is necessarily intentional. Most mailers have this as the
default setting for responding and the user has to learn how to elect not
to send the whole message back. In some cases others have more primative
mailers that don't allow users to choose, because the sysop has control.
As to line-wrapping - that's the beauty of a computer. You don't have to
pretend its a typewriter and it allows users to cut and paste easily from
one format to another. Line breaks inhibit the usefulness of postings
because everyone who wants to copy has to then go manually remove them - a
real pain. And in some cases the manual returns cause a message to come
across with a full line, then a short line, then a full line, then a short
line, making it hard to read with the result that the message is likely
just to get deleted.
Your gateway is using the same basic software as mine. Tell them they can
contact CAPACCESS.ORG and get the free "Pine 3.07" post office program
from Case Western that will solve these problems. Try to work the problem
on your end instead of trying to bring the list down to your level of
