It has been two years but our son was paid a grand total of $50 for 8 weeks
of camp. It was a the local Boy Scout Camp where the boys feel it is a honor
to be selected and they don't care what they get paid. We also had to provide
him with his uniforms and transportation. But what he learned that year by being responsible for his own patrol of first year campers was better than pay.
His sister at the same time was a camp counselor at the Girl Scout Camp and
she was paid $700 for the first summer (8 weeks) and almost $1000 last summer
when she went back. It was harder on us (the parents) to keep peace in the
family on the Saturday afternoons when they both returned home for 12 hours
before having to report back. It seems that sister enjoyed rubbing it into
brother how much she got paid. We all survived thanks to our philosophy that
is life and welcome son you are now a Boy Scout volunteer.
