I have 2 first year staffers at Camp Hi-Sierra. Their weekly pay is $160/
gross. But, once taxes, Room and Board are taken out, they will recieve
Camp fees are $175/week for campers. The staff is in camp for 8 weeks.

My son, who is a third year staff member, Eagle, OA, Philmont and Jamboree
veteran, got his staff paycheck on Saturday. He knew what the amount was going
to be ahead of time ($40/wk), but he asked me what I made when I was a teenage
staff member. Well, that was some thirty years ago, but it was about $40/wk,
which was what it cost a camper to attend Summer camp back then in Oklahoma.
Question; is this consistent with staff pay around the country? Is there a
possibility that this may help explain why it is hard to get older (16-18 year
olds) to work on staff?
I am glad Brad does the staff thing, he's getting a lot better experience than
the guys humping groceries out to little old ladies cars, but I can see his
point when his buddies working at Kroger get as much in tips during their 30
hour week as he gets in pay for a week which is something in excess of thirty
hours (not to mention that they get to flirt with the girls).
I am interested in the rates of other councils, it seems like the rule of thumb
used to be that staff got paid about the same as the fee for one camper.
