With regard to R.E. Lovejoy III's (Lovey to those of us lucky enough
to know him) posting about District Scouters: I was at the meeting
in question and opted not to cast a vote since I had no idea how the
kids felt about the proposed change under discussion. Lovey, bless his
heart, can usually be counted on for a reality check when we District
scouters momentarily forget that this is the kids program and he was quite
right (IMHO) to make the suggestion that the question be brought up to the
units since they have a much better handle on what the kids want than those
of us on the District committee that are not active with a unit or (as was
the case here for some folks) unfamiliar with the event in question.
From postings I've seen on scouts-l from time to time, I gather some Districts
routinely have scouts plan many of their activites.....I'd be interested
in hearing about some of the successes and pitfalls of that practice are.
