George Meany Award." Blame any typos on me

The George Meany Award is a national recognition approved by the
AFL-CIO Executive Council. It may be presented to any adult male or
female union member who has made a significant contribution to the
youth of their community through Scouting.
There shall be permitted, annually, one award for each City Central
Labor Body plus one for each State Central Labor Body with emphasis on
the importance of being selective. There is no rule that the full
quota must be used every year. No honorary recognitions should be
The purpose of this award is to recognize the recipient's outstanding
service to youth through the programs of the Boy Scouts of America.
Guide for Selection Committee
Following are some qualifications, a combination of which might make
the requirements for this recognition. These are offered as a guide
only. However, they are indicative of what the Selection Committee
should be looking for. This list is not inclusive as there are many
other areas that could be considered.
A. Has notably served in bring Scouting to more youth.
B. Has assisted organizations in recruiting Scoutmasters and other key
C. Is fully trained in the skills of Scouting and outstanding for his
or her sense of responsibility and humility and good example.
D. Has made a significant contribution to Scouting in the field of
E. Has led in promoting Scouting for all youth regardless of race or
creed and has been instrumental in organizing Scouting units in the
inner city and ghettos.
NOTE: Work accomplishment and dedication rather than a specific number
of years in Scouting should be the criteria for receiving this award.
