This is a question aimed at the Americans here, And one I simply
*have* to ask. It has been getting my mind working overtime....
1) why burn the American flags?
2) what is the signifigance of it?
I have been folloing the debate on the list and I personnaly can not see why
someone would burn a flag, other than in protest
and find the thought that one would wnt to burn one's own
country flag to be, I dunno, basicly wrong and disrespectful. I can not see how
this can be considered being done at a scout camp, no matter what the reasons,
but this is just me as a Australian talking.
I just want to know why it is done and what reason is there for it? Also, what
does it prove?
Someone said something about for people dying in the war, in which case, would
it not be more respectful to look at it and remeber, rather than burn it? Once
you burn something else, generally, then that is the end of it as such, you
have gotten rid of it....So again, why burn the national flag?????
(Just for the record, I may not be overly keen about certain parts of my flag,
but that is still no reason for me to burn it....)
