Another new position! Shameless bragging.

Brag time. Another hour a week....
My Troop just held an Eagle Board and the Board was very impressed with the
Two of our Scouts attended the OA Ordeal, as did our Scoutmaster.
Our Scoutmaster is signed up for Woodbadge.
Now I have lived in three Council Districts in one year, but have never
moved.... that reflects the fact we are up in the mountains a long drive
from anywhere else. We were the north end of Tall Timbers District, but it
was merged for lack of District volunteers (although no one ever asked any
of us to volunteer for District office); when Tall Timbers died, so did our
OA Chapter. So then we were is Seven Rivers District; it already had a
chapter, so we were merged. Now we are in Squaw Butte District, which has
Anyway, the two new candidates who passed their Ordeal, and the one young
man who was there from out town, and the three adults who were there from
our town, looked at each other and said well let's start our own Chapter!
And then we elected one of the new members as Chapter Chief. So he turns to
me, and says, 'and you'll be my adviser, right?'
So I took it up with the Lodge Adviser and the Council Exec., and it's
official. For the time being it's the resurrection of Hemene Chapter,
although the youth want to think over the name a little. I am getting them
a unit list and leader list for Squaw Butte District so they can start the
contacts. The District is sort of apostrophe shaped, about a three hour
drive from south bottom tip to the south end of the rounded top, another
hour back across the rounded top to the northernmost end. It includes eight
incorporated cities of which ours, with a population of 2,500, is the
largest, and two or three unincorporated hamlets. For once McCall is almost
in the center of a District, rather than the north end.
Hemene is Nez Perce for 'wolf.' There is some sentiment to adopt the bear
as the totem, rather than the wolf. Nez Perce for bear is Hohots, and some
adjective (big, roaring, etc) may be added.
Wish us well!
