How much is dues?

A question was raised about the dues each troop charges. Troop One of
Akron Ohio charges $25 for a boy to join the first year for which
we give a handbook, neckerchief, registration, insurance, and boys life.
A second boy froma family is $20. Knock off $5.00 if the boy shows up
with his own handbook. However, this fee is never agained charged.
I believe firmly in charging weekly dues and having the Troop Scribe be
the only responsible party to collect dues. We charge 50 cents per week
for every week whether the scout attends or not. Additionally the Scribe
is responsible for attendance and uniform wear. He may use patrol scribes
assist him at his choice. Yes, it is a pain, but why deny a boy a chance to gr
ow in a responsible position? At the end of the year we have enough $s
to re-register the Scout, buy boys Life and pay insurance. Any extra is
put into the general fund for patches, etc.
Campouts are pay-as-you-go, usually $10 per weekend. Bigger events such as
a canoe trip might be $25.00. We provide four fundraisers a year to help
the scouts earn money for summer camp and high-advntures or for use for
other legitimate scout stuff. Some scouts earn enough to pay for most
of their scouting year.
